Snow on the mountains!

This week I have been looking at several different artists’ paintings for reference as to how they have created depictions of landscapes.

One artist I found particularly interesting was Polly Townsend. Her work is characterised by the use of saturated colour and bold lines which create the defining shapes of the landscape she portrays. As mountain ranges are an occurring theme of her paintings, the layering of colour applied with varying types of brush strokes allows her to create the impression of scale and gradient within her subjects.

Inspired by a photograph I had taken of the view from Aberystwyth’s seafront, I started painting on a rather large canvas my very skilful grandad made to order (he’s now made so many I will never have an excuse not to paint!).
