This week I have felt fairly uninspired whilst in the studio. I had dedicated a whole day to painting a small study of a tree from a photograph, which quickly became such a boring task! Unmotivated to carry on with this painting, I turned to my only source of inspiration, which was the view from the studio window. I chose a large canvas, set up all my paints and layered on different colours with brushes and a pallette knife. I wanted to create an impression of this view, before the light fleeted completely. By working quickly in this way, I was able to let myself loose with the paint and I found it much more enjoyable than working from a photograph. From now on, I will avoid creating any work from a photograph, as I feel that it does not convey the senses of which you would feel if you were actually present at the scene.

Yesterday afternoon, I set up my easel in our loft room- which has a sky light! Instead of travelling anywhere, I felt that this view provided me with the perfect opportunity to paint! At first, I focused on capturing the sky, however the light changed so much that it was much more difficult than I had initially assumed. After layers of paint, I started to block out the landscape with my pallette knife and used different sized brushes to create an impression of the landscape before me.
