In the last week I have set up my work space in a new environment, at home, in the Midlands. Now three hours away from the Welsh landscape that has dominated my work over the last two years, I am faced with the challenge of using photos and memory to continue creating work of this subject matter. I have adapted quite well to this change; although I have now been distanced from my subject, I have had the opportunity to reflect on the landscape’s lasting impression and reflect this within my work.

I decided to work on a slightly larger scale than I have been doing recently, mainly because I wished to create a painting that contained most of its detail within the centre- a focus point. The elongated frame was ideal to depict the mountain range. To ensure focus on my subject, I applied more muted colours to the top and bottom half of the composition.
