The Mountain Trail Series!

The weekend before lockdown loomed upon us, we obliviously ventured through the mountains for the last time we would in a while. A cold day, with occasional showers, it was clear to see that spring was just around the corner. The bare branches of the trees seemed to wait eagerly for the arrival of warmer weather, as they continued to present the darker tones of the winter season. The landscape appeared quite stagnant as we walked through its trails and, looking back, it ironically presented a visualisation of how the coming weeks would feel. This last walk along the mountain trails provided me with the visual information to continue to create work from home. The photographs I took on this day, in collaboration with the current reality of isolation, presented an opportunity to reflect upon both of these experiences.

In preparation for the submission of the end of year exhibition works, I have practised the arrangement of paintings through this collection of work. A consideration of their order has provided me with an insight into how the paintings work, in relation to one another. This will be particularly useful for the final submission of work, of which will be arranged according the their content and format. Within this series, I wished to represent a journey through the mountains- irrespective of size order!
